From 19 March to 24 July 2016 Palazzo Strozzi hosts a major exhibition that brings to Florence over 100 masterpieces of European and American art between the twenties and the sixties of the twentieth century, in a path that reconstructs relationships and relationships between the two sides of the ‘Oceano, in the sign of the figures of American collectors Peggy and Solomon Guggenheim.
Curated by Luca Massimo Barbero, the exhibition is the result of the collaboration between the Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation in New York and allows an exceptional comparison between fundamental works of European masters of modern art such as Marcel Duchamp, Max Ernst, Man Ray , Pablo Picasso and the so-called informal Europeans such as Alberto Burri, Emilio Vedova, Jean Dubuffet, Lucio Fontana, together with large paintings and sculptures of some of the major American personalities of the 1950s and 1960s such as Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, Willem de Kooning, Alexander Calder, Roy Lichtenstein, Cy Twombly.
The large paintings, sculptures, engravings and photographs shown in the exhibition at Palazzo Strozzi, borrowed from the Guggenheim collection in New York and from Venice and other prestigious international museums, offer a glimpse of the twentieth century art season of which Peggy and Solomon Guggenheim were decisive actors.
