NASCITA DI UNA NAZIONE, TRA GUTTUSO FONTANA E SCHIFANO

From 16 March to 22 July 2018 Palazzo Strozzi hosts the exhibition Nascita di una Nazione. Tra Guttuso, Fontana e Schifano (Birth of a Nation. Between Guttuso, Fontana and Schifano): a journey through art, politics and society in Italy between the Fifties and the period of the protest of the Sixty-eight through eighty works by artists such as Renato Guttuso, Lucio Fontana, Alberto Burri, Emilio Vedova, Enrico Castellani , Piero Manzoni, Mario Schifano, Mario Merz and Michelangelo Pistoletto.
The exhibition, curated by Luca Massimo Barbero, sees for the first time a collection of emblematic works of the Italian cultural ferment after World War II, the years of the so-called “economic miracle”, a moment of profound transformation of Italian society until the fateful date of 1968 It is in these twenty years that a new idea of art takes shape, projected into the contemporary through an extraordinary vitality of languages, materials and forms. An artistic itinerary, that of the exhibition, which starts from the diatribe between Realism and Abstraction, continues with the triumph of Informal Art to get to the experimentations on images, gestures and figures of Pop Art in juxtaposition with the experiences of monochrome painting up to new languages Arte Povera and Conceptual Art.
